Good opportunity to post my summer goals:
Operation Triathlete. I’ve been putting it off and putting it off.  I won’t be ready for the June or July races in the series but I can shoot for the August race (8/19).  Maybe I’ll do the sprint duathlon in July (7/22) as a warm up.  I will be a triathlete before the summer is over.
Sub 30 Minute 5k.I’ve wanted to attain this since I started running (you know, back when I “ran” 44 minute 5ks).  Back then it seemed impossible.  Now I run 33 minute 5ks.  By the end of the summer we’ll see that number start with a 2.  Maybe not at the end of a triathlon, but it’ll be there.  Even if I have to get up at 6 a.m. to beat the heat.
Let’s do this.

Joyful June Goals

June is my favvvvorite month of the year.  I think most people feel special about their birthday month.  But there’s even more fun that that:

6/14 My Bday

6/17 Father’s Day (I’m a daddy’s girl)

6/20 Dating anniversary with the hubs

6/25 My first year wedding anniversary

I also have close friends with bdays on 6/6, 6/13, 6/16, and 6/18 (I guess Geminis tend to surround themselves with other Geminis?)  Usually when someone tells me their birthday is in late May/June  I nod and say to myself “that’s why I like them so much.”   I don’t really subscribe to the whole astrology thing, but there’s something there.

Anyway, I want my goals this month to be simple, joyful, and refreshing.  Here they are:

  1. Be active every day. Predominantly with Swim/Bike/Run/Yoga every day.  Yes, every.day.  I know, I know.  You’re saying, “last month this chick said she was going to work out 80% of the time and she put a big ol 58% up. Now 100%? Psssssh. And you’re not going to take any rest days?  And you call this joyful?”  Well yes, but not exactly.  I want to retrain my brain and my body to remember that physical activity is not punishment or a chore, but something to be grateful for and enjoy.  And I will listen to my body when it needs rest, but I will still aim to either play in the ocean (“swim”), sit on a stationary bike with a good book (“bike”), go for a long walk or pump out a quick mile (“run”), or putz around in my living room with a yoga mat on my “rest” days. The rest of the time I’ll be officially starting tri training (hence the swim/bike/run) and snuggling up to my newfound love of yoga.
  2. Get in the 160s and stay there.  SoS hasn’t been good for me. I echo the sentiments in these posts.  I get too caught up in the scale.  But I also need to push through this plateau.  I’ve been hovering in the 170s this entire year.  I will weigh 3x/week and use my “trend” weight as my current weight.  I still use my caloriecount  graph for my weight log even though I don’t log every single calorie anymore.  It creates a graph of the actual weight and a “trend” graph and spits out a “trend” weight.  I believe it’s an average of your last 5-7 weigh-ins so even if you’re up for the day it may still show you on a downward trend.  I think that’s a much more positive approach and will keep me motivated.
  3. Eat Clean. No more junk in my body.  It deserves better. No soda (I don’t drink much anymore anyway). I imagine there will be birthday cake, but I’ll bake something clean for me and keep it simple (i.e. small portion or abstain) at the other festivities.  More juicing, more veggies.  Going to try to get the hubs to allow for Meatless Mondays so I can get him eating some more adventurous veg things.

Treadmills Suck

5k forced out. Would like nothing more than to take a sledge hammer to that machine. That would count as my weights for the day right?

I wish it wasnt so humid so I could just run outside. I could go longer, harder, and be happier after. Whine.

May Goals: How I Did

Not well really, but I think I’m ok with that.

  1. Work out 80%+ of the days in May.  Fail.  I did 19/31 days.  That’s 58%.  I underestimated how busy this month would be and how lame I would be about getting my work outs in when I’m busy.
  2. Rock out yoga every Tuesday and then sign up for more classes if I like it. Success.  I went to 6 yoga classes this month and am totally in love with all things yoga.  If I could afford to go to yoga class every day I totally would.  I think I may start doing it at home in the morning.  Hello flexibility.
  3. Rock out Live Fit with the hubs starting 5/7/12. Partial success.  Hubs ditched me (not his fault, he’s been really stressed at work).  I did two solid weeks, got bored, and then decided to just use the workouts on my weight training days.  At least they provide a regimen for certain body parts when I’m too lazy to think up my own.
  4. Get some serious bike riding in. Fail.  Spinning kind of sort of counts but not really.  I will start biking though.  Want to train for a tri.
  5. Bring back the juicer. Success.  I was able to turn this one around since I checked in on 5/15.  I moved the juicer out of its corner tucked away to right out front on my counter where I have to see it everyday (and have to shove into it whatever fruit or veggies I have that may be about to wilt or just because).  I love fresh juice.
  6. Lose 6 lbs. Meh. I hit an all time low last week but I’m up this week. It’s likely because I’m retaining water, havingdigestion issues again, and gearing up for shark week. If I was to use last week’s weight, I’d be down about 3-4 lbs total.  I can do better than that, but I’m also not complaining about a loss.  A loss is a loss is a loss.  And it’s not a gain and it’s not even a maintain.  Staying in the right direction is what’s most important to me.

Overall, not what I wanted, but I my yoga discovery and making better food choices this month is enough to make me satisfied about my progress.

I’m throwing some ideas around for June goals, will post tomorrow.

WIW / SoS / 4n4

Prepare for the excuses…lame lame excuses.

I haven’t been posting my SoS/4n4 because I’ve just been dumbfounded by the scale these last two days.  There’s no way I’ve gained 3 lbs since Friday.  Just no way.

My eating was spot on this entire weekend with the exception of some sugary drinks at Friday Happy Hour and the wedding on Sunday.  Yeah sugary drinks are the scourge of the earth when it comes to weight loss, but I don’t think they packed on 3 lbs.  That’s 10,500 excess calories.   Just no way.

The more likely culprit may be the asian food I had for dinner on Monday and leftovers for lunch yesterday.  Sodium bloat much?  We’ll see if it balances out tomorrow.

My clothes are still loose, my muscles ache from yoga last night (I moved up to the real class!), and I’m going to run after work.  Make plans, not excuses, right?

Hydration nudge. Water, coffee, fresh juice (tastes better than it looks).

Happy Tuesday y’all. At least it’s a short week.
